We want to provide you with a brief overview and update on today’s evacuation and reunification process following the gas leak at Williston Middle School Central Campus.
The leak was caused by a defective shut-off valve and fitting connected to a boiler installed during renovations within the last couple of years. Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of our staff and emergency personnel, everyone remained safe throughout the day.
The contractor is currently repairing the system. Once the repairs are finished, pressure testing will confirm whether it's safe for students to return to campus for in-person learning tomorrow. We will send a direct text and email update to all WMSCC families and staff as soon as a decision is made. Ensuring the safety of our students and staff remains our top priority.
Once the WMSCC reopens for in-person school attendance, students will be able to retrieve their backpacks and any belongings left behind.
𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:
- 8:45 AM: An odor was detected, and students were immediately evacuated.
- 9:00 AM: Students were transitioned to the Raymond Family Community Center for reunification with families.
- 9:30 AM: Reunification began for approximately 1,300 students.
- 12:00 PM: Over half of the students had been safely reunified with their families.
- 2:15 PM: The reunification process was complete, and all students were safely reunited with their families.
𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗞 𝗬𝗢𝗨
We are incredibly grateful to everyone involved. Thank you to our parents and families for your patience and cooperation, to our students for remaining calm, and to our dedicated staff, District Reunification Team, District Food Services, our School Resource Officers and Transportation for making this process as smooth as possible.
A special thank you to the Williston Fire Department, Williston Police Department, and MDU for their essential support.
Additionally, we’d like to recognize the generosity of local businesses who donated extra food for students and staff, including Jersey Mike's, Don Pedro’s, Papa John’s, and 3 Amigos. We also appreciate Vac U Jet for providing portable restrooms.
Thank you all for your understanding and support during this time. We are proud of how our community came together to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.
Warm regards,
WBSD7 & WMSCC Administration

The Williston Basin School District #7 invites the community to celebrate the groundbreaking of its new elementary school on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 5:00 PM. The ceremony will take place in Williston Square at 1316 33rd St W.
Construction for the new elementary school will commence this fall, with the school slated to open its doors in August 2026. This project is made possible by the passing of the bond referendum in April 2024, a major milestone in addressing the district’s continued enrollment growth.
The groundbreaking ceremony will be held in partnership with JLG Architects, JE Dunn Construction, and the City of Williston.
For more information about the new elementary school project, visit: willistonschools.org/page/2024bondproject.
Best regards,

Parents of 6th Graders
This week your student will be going on a field trip to the NDSU Extension Center. Students on Silver Jimmies and Maroon Marauders will go Tuesday 9/10 and Gold Bison and Magenta Vikings will go on 9/12.
Lunch will be provided. If your student has any allergies, please send them with a sack lunch. Students must come dressed appropriately for the weather while following the dress code for WBSD7.

We have lots of fun things planned coming up in the next few weeks at Central Campus!
Homecoming is the week of September 16th-20th. We will be celebrating with themed dress up days throughout the week.
Monday: Sports Day--represent your favorite sport/sports team
Tuesday: Twin Day--dress as twins with someone else
Wednesday: Switch Day--teachers dress as students and students dress as teachers
Thursday: Team Day--dress to show your team pride with the colors of your team or college apparel for the team (this means the team you are on at Central Campus)
Friday: Orange and Black Day! Show your Coyote Pride and join us for the parade at 4:00 at the high school. Tailgating and football game to follow.
We will also be hosting a Color Run for each team during Homecoming Week.
5th grade: September 16th
6th grade: September 17th
7th grade: September 18th
8th grade: September 19th
There will be a Spooktacular dance for the 5th and 6th graders on September 27th from 5-7 pm. $5 entry.
There is a dance in the works for 7th and 8th graders, but the planning is still happening. More info to come!

Due to the unfavorable air quality today, we had inside social time instead of outside recess during the lunches. Many of our students chose to utilize the game shelf which is always fun to watch! If you happen to be doing a little Fall cleaning and have some school appropriate games you are finished with, we would love to take them off your hands. When cold weather approaches and we are inside full time, we would like to have lots of game options for the students to choose from. If you have questions, please contact Mary Catherine Anderson at m.anderson@willistonschools.org.

There is No School and all WBSD7 offices will be closed on Monday, September 2 for Labor Day.
Enjoy the holiday!
